Hello, how are you? I have received your letter regarding help on your school assignment. So you stated that you needed to learn more about my ethnicity, culture and experiences we had in U.S History? I will be glad to help you. African Americans have been through a lot throughout the American history, from slavery, dealing with racism and discrimination to finally being able to have equal rights like everyone else.

The first African slaves arrived at Virginia in America in 1619. There were 20 of them. Slaves have traveled in ships to come America to be traded, bought, and sold to be labor workers. African Americans were forced to pick cotton, clean, cook, work and many woman were also raped by their masters and ended up being pregnant with their master’s children. Many of the African Americans of the ships did not make it to America. The ship’s conditions were so bad, being that they were tied up and unable to use the bathroom, that many died before they even made it to America. African Americans had to struggle and fight and deal with discrimination until they have finally earned equal rights in America.

Throughout American history, there has been political, social and culture issues with African Americans. African Americans had to endure inequalities and segregation and it took some brave and strong leaders to take some political actions. One famous leader was Martin Luther King. He was the leader in the African American Civil Rights Movement which eventually led to him getting assassinated but there was finally equality for the African Americans after he passed. To this day, he is celebrated with his own American holiday which is in January on the third Monday of the month.

A big social issue within African Americans in the United States is having out-of-wedlock children and high divorce rate. Being a single parent is also very common with African Americans also. There has been a recent census conducted in the U.S that I have...
