 In the PETA case, first explain the "product" of their enterprise.  

Most of us don’t think about where their food comes from unless directly confronted. As with most issues, there is a tension between the emotional issue of animal abuse and the impact to our wallets. Animal Abuse has become a worldwide issue, which is often not acknowledged. The organization PETA (People for the Ethical treatment of Animals) has been a major force in the world of animal rights and the most successful at eliminating cruelty still to today. They’re here to provide a means of education and conservation. PETA has made an impact on stopping the abuse of thousands of animals across the world though their efforts. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest number of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in testing laboratories, and finally in the entertainment industry. PETA’s trying to set good examples about how animals are supposed to be treated, by creating campaigns that catch the eye of young children on purpose so they grow up knowing animal abuse is wrong; especially the way the circuses treat their animals. From PETA’s Perspective, the real message that these circuses send to children is that it's acceptable to abuse animals for amusement and profit. PETA steps in to educate the public and key decision- makers [legislation] what really is happening behind the scenes to these animals. PETA wants to stop the abuse that happens within the factory farms by educating the public about what they’re actually eating, a result is humane meat has been rising in popularity. The animals raised in confinement create an ideal setting for bacteria and disease to spread rapidly.
