Solve a Problem

The ability to effectively solve problems usually depends on how creative the problem solver is. Does the problem solver have enough curiosity about finding the best possible solution, or has he or she limited their ideas to the most common solutions? The subject of this paper to explore will be the stages of the creative process and how to properly use them to effectively solve the problem of personal time mismanagement.

Creative Process Stages

The ability to be creative lies in the ability to maintain an open mind combined with the desire to explore alternatives, and then express or produce new ideas. According to Vincent Ruggiero, there are generally four stages to the creative process of problem solving—searching for challenges, expressing the problem, investigation of the problem, and producing ideas to solve the problem (2009).

The first stage of searching for challenges involves the continual thought process where one can perceive a problem exists, and responds to the opportunity to improve, change, or solve the problem for a better outcome.

The second stage of expressing the problem involves stating the problem in different ways in such a manner that produces different perspectives, thereby producing more thoughts.

The third stage of investigating the problem involves gathering relevant information that will aid in dealing with the problem. To accomplish this task one must either reflect on past experiences, or gain knowledge through new experiences.

The fourth stage of producing ideas to solve the problem effectively involves the continual exploration of uncommon or unfamiliar ideas, and reaching a conclusion as to what is the best direction to proceed (Ruggiero, 2009).
