“It is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to methods that are biologically observable.” (It is the science, 2001) “The goal of research on AI is to understand the nature of thought and intelligent behavior and to design intelligent systems.” (Copeland, J. 2000). Some of the processes for AI are learning, reasoning, and self-correction. The lingering questions then become what the limits are, and if it can be tailored to provide us with methods to create a perfect and enhanced environment?

The number of reasons why AI is increasingly becoming necessary continues to grow exponentially. We count on computers in today’s society for nearly everything. Something as simple as finding directions, to something as complex as constructing a building using your computer for the blueprints can be contributed to the use of computers. Also, the study of AI is allowing us to understand our intelligent behavior. “Humans have an interesting approach to problem solving, based on abstract thought, high-level deliberative reasoning and pattern recognition. Artificial Intelligence can help us understand this process by recreating it, then potentially enabling us to enhance it beyond our current capabilities.” (Humans, 2001).

The history of AI follows back to the beginning of the 1900’s and has been one of the greatest research projects that scientists have continued studying for many decades.
