ABSTRACT

Every organization is formed to achieve a predefined goal. No doubt such goal can never be achieved without a well defined plan to achieve such goal. In view of this, every organization will have a well structured plan and an organizational structure that take up the challenge of executing this planned objective.

This work will be exploiting strategic planning as a concept, organizational structure as a concept and tackling the ever growing argument of which of the two (strategy and structure) comes first.

INTRODUCTION

As organizations grow larger and markets more complex, creating a crystal-clear strategy and a structure that enables the organization to achieve its goals becomes mission critical. In developing both, top management must be sure that key functions are properly aligned so that it is of maximum value to the firm.

The winners of the future will be organizations that recognize the ever-increasing value of strategic planning and create an organization designed to use information to make better decisions, create better products, and abandon the obsolete. Companies need to have a strategy that is not only consistent with the strategy of the firm, but one that helps the company to speed its learning curve across a great number of areas.

CONCEPT OF STRATEGY

(1)The determination of how the organizational objective will be achieved, determining the strategy and developing the specific plans to implement such strategy is generally known as strategic planning.(1)

(2)A strategy is an overall approach and plan. So, strategic planning is the overall planning that facilitates the good management of a process. Strategic planning takes you outside the day to-day activities of your organization or project. It provides you with the big picture of what you are doing and where you are going.
