A Case Study By Nilesh Gupta
Case Study of Chak De
This movie teaches us the team work so well, which I think no amount of literature on the
team work can do this job that brilliantly. This movie is about Indian women hockey
team that has gone through unbelievable transformation under the command of Shahrukh
Khan. This movie is about teamwork, hard work, planning and charismatic leadership. I
personally think leadership has an edge over team work in this movie because had it not
been Shahrukh khan this team wont have done so well. We have seen in the recent past a
movie called Lagan which still inspires the corporate world.
Differences with Lagan
This movie is different from Lagan on many aspects. First in the movie Lagan the team
members were playing in order to survive. There had no other option to play because of
the condition imposed by the Capt Russell, so the players were aligned to the common
goal at the very onset of the game where as in the case of Chak De every body started
playing for the different reasons and it was a mammoth task in front of the Shahrukh
Khan to align them towards a larger cause which was winning the world cup.
Second and main difference was in the film Lagan, Bhuvan was main performer. He was
a good leader, player, and manager. He could ball, bat and field. He was a constant
source of motivation for the team on and off the field. Where as in the Chak De
Shahrukh was not a player. His role gets restricted to the spectator once the team is on the
ground. He doesnt have the luxury to communicate and motivate the players once they
are on the field. So leadership and team work both become more important in Chak De.
Similarities with Lagan
The first similarity is that both the teams didnt have any chances of winning against their
formidable competitors. Second similarity was both the team players put their heart and
soul in the matches they played. Third similarity was the diversity of team composition.
