The Last of the Mohicans

Last of the Mohicans is a movie set in the wilderness and land of the North American continent during the French and Indian War. It was a nine year war that covered the known areas of colonial America and consumed the colonial militia, French and British troops, and the Native American Indians. It was started by a dispute over the Allegheny and Monongahela River’s. This erupted into a battle between French troops and Virginia militia. With tension escalating, King George II of Brittan ordered the movement of extra troops to the colonies and the creation of a colonial militia army to protect his interest in North America. King Louis XV of France ordered French troops to prepare for war and be ready to march on the upper colonies. Following this order, both sides reached out to Native American tribes to form alliances against the other faction. The French claimed more Native Americans because most of the Indians feared the British would take their lands and force them to conform to their ways. In the spring of 1754, the smoke of over 40,000 guns and cannon were about to rise and engulf the land. This was no longer a dispute over a river; this is now a war for the North American territories. With all this in mind, the Last of the Mohicans is set in 1757 at a time in the war when the British were having a hard time controlling the land that was already under their possession. In The Last of the Mohicans the character of Hawkeye, accompanied by his Mohican father Chingachgook and his son Uncas, embark on a journey to escort Cora and Alice Monro, who are the daughters of Colonel Edmund Monro, to Fort William Henry after the girls British escort was attacked by a Huron war party.
