* Analyze and compare the three essays in Chapter 14 and comment on their effectiveness in the following areas: (A) thesis statements, (B) evidence, and their (C) rhetorical strategies (logos, ethos, and pathos).

* Identify the essay that you thought was most effective. Explain why.

Well I feel the first essay took the logos or logical rhetorical strategy. The writer was using logical reasoning to argue that it makes sense to do away with physical money. He accomplished this by giving percentages and other facts to support his view. The thesis statement could have been a little more focused and clear as I had to read it twice to make sure I knew where he was going. Overall the essay does have more than enough evidence to convince the reader that it would be good to get rid of physical money. He writes about the effect it would have on the economy and even defends his view after presenting his opponents argument. Including the oppositions view did make the essay slightly ethical giving it some ethos rhetoric

The second essay had both logos and ethos rhetoric. For me it leaned a little more to the ethos side by the end. The writer makes himself credible by know writing about past instances and cases where apologies after the fact were a good thing. He basically took the stance that is okay to not apologies but it is ethically wrong to not do it just because you did personally commit the act. He had ample supporting evidence by comparing his view to past examples of when you government apologized to the Japanese for example. Again in this essay the thesis statement was not as clear to me from the beginning. The writing gets you to his thesis gradually. A unique approach but I am not sure if it is the most effective.
