In the ever growing world of today’s business, there is a critical need to store lots and lots of data. This information can consist of several things which may include; customer accounts, financial information, employee detail, billing information and even warehouse inventory. In most businesses today, the likely place where all of this information is called a database. Database Systems
According to TechTerms.com, a database is a “data structure that stores organized information” (TechTerms, 2009). A database can also be defined as a collection of like items that all have the same type of features. An example of this would be that of a typical address book. Everyone in an address book is listed by their last name, then first name. But each entry has an address, city, state and zip code as well. These entries can also be sorted in several different ways; by city, by state and by zip code would be the most common ways to sort them.
Database Architecture
In order to complete a project successfully, there are three keys that are needed; technology, resources and processes (Marchewka, 2009). The purpose of creating an IT Help Desk at Peabody Energy is to relieve the chaos that is currently happening in the IT department. Team D will begin this process by reviewing the current processes and identifying the organizational structure. The project manager will put together a team that will consist of an analyst, a designer, a network technician, a project professional team (help desk employees), trainers and an administrative assistant who will be in charge of executing the project. The budget and time estimation will be presented to the Peabody Energy board of directors for their approval. A feasibility report will be completed by the project manager within a timeframe of 2 weeks from the start of the project and also approved by the board of directors.
