Preamble

The first amendment give us the freedom of speech and press. For journalist this is a big responsibly. My ethics involves not taking advantage of these rights. It means no to jeopardize my morals and beliefs for money, fame, and power. I believe journalist roles are to provide truth, balance and fairness to the society. The first section of this code provides that I will be continuously sincere in this professional practice.

The public looks at the media to present fair and true accounts. If this is comprise all credibility will be lost. My goal is to be a objective as possible and not let my opinions get in the way of fairness. I will protect my creditability in every way I can, by not promoting or using checkbook journalism. I will seek truth and report it.

I. Truth and Accuracy

A. I will put accuracy above all other considerations in the written

word, whether editorial, advertisement, article or news story.

B. I will interpret accuracy as the honest truth with evidence and not opinions.

C. If I am wrong about any information I will publicly acknowlege my mistakes, because the public has the right to know the truth.

D. I will avoid misleading information.

F. Never distort photos.

II. Care, Competency; Thoroughness

Inaccuracy in journalism is commonly due more to carelessness of a journalist. My altitude towards this profession is to take in consideration of others “do unto others as I would have them do unto you” This is very important to me. Consideration makes a person great at their field.

A. I will consider every possible way to cover a story and make the best judgment possible.

B. I will consider all parties involved in the stories and present a fair account of those sides.

C. I will present both sides in a fair and balance account. This is important to me because credibility is all I have.
