What is a leader?

Leader is defined as the ability to affect the behavior of human to accomplish a goal or mission. Being a leader is having the influence of others which has an aspect in a formal or informal way. There are different styles of leadership that may portray the individual leader such as:

• Being able to have a vision for the people in which you are leading

• Having passion for what you are doing

• Acts as a spokesperson

• Communicate expectations and confidence

Even though leaders have many different classifications, one must take a look deep down inside to know what the purpose for leading and what will be the accomplishments he/she is willing to achieve while leading. Where can we find effective leaders?

Leadership is not just held within the workforce, but everywhere in the world. Leaders can have the people best interest at hand or their own. Leaders have the power to influence others to accomplish goals personally or for the good of others. Leaders have a great deal of responsibility because they are seen in the eyes of others to pursue them in the right direction and when this does not happen, the people want to blame someone and it is not themselves, but usually the one they listened to, the Leader.

The question was posed asking if a leader is born. Some say no, I say yes. Leaders are born and you can be taught to be an effective leader. Can you remember when you were younger playing a game “Follow the Leader.” You are what you play and what have been in your surroundings. Yet, everyone may not turn out to be an effective leader. You can try and teach a person how to lead, but if it is not in them naturally, they will not be good leaders. Going through intensive training of Supervision, I noticed with the presentation, it was information that was posing what attributes a good leader has such as:

• Honesty- being sincere with your behavior as well as speech
