Chapter 1: Introduction

Your day has come to an end, you have finished your bedtime snack and you are extremely tired. You have just put on your most comfortable pair of pajamas and you are ready to crawl into bed. As you are laying your head on the soft, fluffy pillow, you notice that your eyes begin to get heavy; your whole body is relaxing and getting ready for a good night sleep. You know you are tired, but as you lie in bed, you begin to wonder why your mind is still thinking over the day’s events. If you are like I am, you think about all of the things that you did not get done; finish those moldy dishes that have been sitting in the sink for a week now because watching your favorite TV show sounded a lot better at the time, doing your husband’s laundry, or mowing the lawn. As you lie in bed you start mentally putting them on a list for tomorrow’s things to do, maybe even next week’s list of things to do. Then before you know it, you are asleep and having dreams. Then you wake up in the morning and cannot figure out what that dream meant or why you dreamt it.

Chapter 2: Dreams, What are they and why do we dream?

Sometimes I wonder why I dream if I cannot remember any of them when I wake up. “Alcohol consumption, certain antibiotics, fever, lack of sleep, and unconscious fears about the content of your dreams all affect dream recall, and perhaps dream content” (Plisken and Just, 2003, p. 5).
