Introduction

Operations management is important. It is concerned with creating the products and services upon which we all depend. And creating products and services is the very reason for any organization’s existence. (Slack, 2001) This paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of operations management as it applies to National Sea Life Centre and The London Zoo. By analyzing their processes and layout, we can see how operations management is applied to both organizations. Also, some problems will be discussed in terms of the operations management.

Section1:

The National Sea Life Centre

Located alongside the Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line Canal by Old Turn Junction, the National Sea Life Centre is a large aquarium, which has more than 60 amazing displays of freshwater and marine life, such as plaice, spiny spider crab, banggai cardinalfish, devoted dads. It attracts thousands of people, especially children come to visit every day. Tropical reef fish, sharks and sea turtles are housed in the one- million- litre, with a transparent under water tunnel. It is Sir Norman Foster who designed this incredible building (Wikipedia website, 2011).

It has a mass of seahorse breeding programmes, as well as otter feeding programme. Visitors can view many species of newly rare seahorse though tanks. In Easter 2009, 4-D Cinema which the audience can feel the wind, the rain, or other sensations had been introduced into the Centre.

There are two floors which have variety of creatures. People can get information materials from the reception once they enter the main entrance. On the ground floor, visitors can buy various toy marine life and other souvenirs from the shop to remember this wonderful trip. Besides, photos can be taken at the photo point.
