The confusion of the American people’s opinion is that they think that all Muslims are Arabs and the same for all Arabs are Muslims (Text book). The difference is that the Arabs are an ethnic subordinate group, and the Muslims are a religion group.

• According to research and news reports within the past 2 years, what are some of the changes happening concerning the treatment of Muslim and Arabic members of our society?

The United States of America has generalized the attack of the World Trade Center has been by one group only, the Muslim-Arabs group. Is hard to believe that a whole country is against another, but the truth is only a small population of that country is against the United States. This portion happens to be from the Islamic religion and from an Arab country. The same way when we were attacked by the Japanese with Pearl Harbor, the country has put new rules on traveling, more airport security, restricted the admission of Arab foreigners visiting the United States. The discrimination given to Arabs at this time in the country is probably the deepest one in any subordinate group.

• List two to three characteristics of Orientalism. How many Orientalism and prejudice contribute to hate crimes against these groups?

I could name few of characteristics of orientalism like: Religion, culture, customs, and traditions. We are so use to the western hemisphere that when something different comes from the East, we tend to rejected and at the same time punish it. These reactions help with hate crimes in being less tolerant with different subordinate groups.

• What may individuals do to promote tolerance and reduce prejudice in their towns and cities?
