A MOTHERS LOVE, FATH AND PERSEVERANCE

She had been a single mom for over 6 years, struggling day after day to make the bills and provide for her son. Finally married to the man of her dreams, new house and a new baby on the way could not have been a more perfect scenario; we were finally on our way to a new life. Then a call came late one night with news that would change their whole lives in just 5 minutes of conversation. The doctor told her that her son had stage 5 sarcoma tumor and had 5 months to live. She fell to her knees, her face showed fear, anger and disappointment she had been praying night and day the test would come back clear and this was just going to be a small hurdle to overcome. What we thought was a road to starting our lives had become like a lie and it felt as if the plug had been pulled to our happiness. I felt as if my tongue had been removed I could not find the words to comfort her; I just held her as tight as I could and wept with her for hours. We took a moment of fear and anger and turned it into a moment of love and compassion, I was able to show her without words I was right there with her and she was not alone. Later that night we talked with her son about the diagnosis, he was so innocent and sweet when he looked at her and said “Mom I love you and I don’t want you to worry, God will answer our prayers like he did when he found us Chris”. He taught me something that night; when we look at life from the eyes of a child we will never be afraid.

Today is April 27th 1999 and my wife is due to have our first baby girl “Savannah” in two weeks, we are calling the doctor today to arrange the C-Section early so we can schedule our son’s surgery to have tumor removed. C-Section has been scheduled for April 30th 1999 at 6:00 am we are excited and scared with so many things going on. My wife is nervous and anxious she shared with me today how hard it is to be excited when her son has been given 5 months to live, it’s just not fair,...
