Job Posting for a Small Business

Employees want to know what their employers’ expectations are to minimize confusion and enhance communication in the workplace (Heathfield, 2012). Clearly, a well-written job description will outline job duties and expound on the required skills necessary to perform the job effectively. Additionally, employers can use job descriptions as a basis to structure interview questions for a person desiring to fulfill a job (Financial Wisdom, n.d.). This week’s assignment challenged this author to interview a small-business owner, create a job description for the business, and provide a rationale for the choices made while constructing the job description.

This author interviewed Natasha James, a prominent business owner, in the Park Forest community. Natasha is the owner of Natasha James Photography and Pinkolicious Birthday Party Spa. She started her photography business in 2010, which was after she gave birth to her twins. Natasha expressed the demands of motherhood posed challenges and hindered her from taking her children to professional photographers. As a result, she purchased a camera, began taking photos as a hobby, and developed a passion for photography.

Natasha opened Pinkolicious in October 2011. Pinkolicious is a place where they host parties to pamper young girls. Girls enjoy a full-spa experience, which includes mini-manicures, pedicures, facials, use of robes during spa sessions, playing dress-up with various costumes, or playing video games in the arcade room. Although the businesses are two separate entities, Natasha has integrated her photography business into Pinkolicious where she captures timeless moments at birthday parties.
