In the last years we have witnessed how the financial crisis has shown devastating effects all over the world. Organizations have been trying to respond to the crisis in various ways but particularly by focusing on working according to the achievement of results and make decisions on their human resource management in accordance to these results, mostly in terms of cut-downs. On the one hand, this move has made a lot of sense in order to find ways to better deal with the crisis but on the other hand we need to also acknowledge that this strategy has led to the removal of a lot of valuable talent, which had been greatly contributing to the performance of the organization through their obtained skills. Even though they are seen as mere resources related to cost, they must be considered highly important fragments, which form the groundwork of a company and allow it to function in the first place.
Considering the above explained, a lot of companies have been looking for further ways to respond to the conditions of the crisis. The book “Primero, los Empleados los Clientes después” takes an approach to these responses by particularly looking at how the author, Vineet Nayar, has achieved to transform HCLT, a technology firm from India, which had to face the crisis and the consequences it was accompanied by and reacted to it in a very efficient way that allowed it to transform into a top organization. Its transformation into a leading firm in its industry consisted of a strong focus on their own workers over their clients and services which made them get through the crisis and allowed them to constantly grow despite very challenging economic circumstances.
