Ethics and Aristotle – Ethical Dilemma

“Plagiarism; is when you copy from, rely on, or paraphrase from your text or from any other source. Plagiarism applies to every aspect of your coursework including threaded discussions, exams, quizzes, essays, assignments, etc.” (DeVry,2012). The rules visibly state that if you use some else’s ideas or thoughts without giving them credit, you are in violation of plagiarism. I understand that writing essays can be stressful and very time consuming, but writing them also provides knowledge. It may be convenient to purchase a pre-written essay from online, and there is a chance that you may get away with it, but that does not make it right. Your duty as a student is to abide by the rules and complete the required course work in order to reach your academic goal. Behaving unethically, may forfeit that opportunity. Furthermore you will be cheating yourself out of a very expensive education. I am sure you want more for your money than just a degree. Also, not abiding by the universities rules and regulations by plagiarizing has more consequences than just being expelled, but might also ruin your reputation.

On a care-based standpoint, technically those ideas are not yours. I know that if you took the time out to weigh the pros and cons of buying an essay online, you will come to a conclusion on your own whether to pursue it or not. You are a good person who tends to make good decisions. You have morals and values that represent you as an individual. I know you will make the right decision, a decision that you will not regret later on. The similarities in these solutions are that they are both are against plagiarism and purchasing an essay online, the difference is that the rule-based solution is more straight forward and direct. I believe both the care-based and ruled-based schools of ethics are worthy to be used in a real life dilemma.
