Around about 2002, two new web sites appeared on the scene - Guys4Men and PlanetRomeo, both with a similar vision to provide a high quality online environment for gay and bisexual men and, in contrast to other profile sites of the time, a good degree of free access, with both sites offering unlimited free messages and profile views.
Because the functionality and vision of our sites is so similar, Guys4men and PlanetRomeo have decided to join forces! We hope that doing this will offer advantages all-round, there will be "more men under one roof" (always more fun for everyone involved ;) and less duplicated effort across two separate sites that have in many ways been pursuing the same goals over the years.
Because the Guys4men web site code has now become rather out of date (you will all have noticed it's been several years since we have managed an update) the plan is to merge Guys4men user profiles into the PlanetRomeo web application, giving everyone here a more up to date web site with a better, more powerful array of features. We hope you will feel better looked after as human beings too - something that PlanetRomeo brings to the situation is a whole team of friendly guys working to provide helpful support!
But however much sense it makes, we do appreciate the disruption and upheaval many of you will feel to your online life in the weeks around when the change takes place. We do understand that many of you may be attached to the old site, and (like a favorite old sofa which is starting to develop holes) feel a sadness that it is about to be replaced with something completely new.
For this reason, we will be giving all members who joined guys4men before this announcement on 28th February 2009 free 'Plus' membership (the equivalent of 'Supporter' status) on the new site for 6 months. On top of this, guys4men members with SitePoints will have them translated into PlanetRomeo Plus membership in a suitably generous fashion ;)
