Someone Important in Your Life

Describe someone in your life you believe would be an exemplary human services worker. What characteristics and skills does he or she possess?

My mother is the epiphany of angel sent from God. She has dedicated, and devoted her life to helping improve the livelihood of those who are in need or unable to help themselves. My mother is considered to be the advocate and a role model of the community. The characteristic that makes her an exemplary human service worker is her ability to lead by example and motivate others through her trials and tribulations. She is considerate, compassionate, resourceful, educated, knowledgably, dedicated, nonjudgmental, an excellent public speaker, a good listener and a natural born leader. Over the last 10 years my mother has volunteer at homeless shelters, half way houses, American Red Cross and contributed funds towards the overall improvement of individual’s lives. Since turning her life over to God my mother has a new found outlook on life and truly believes that it is her mission to be the pillar of the community. Since tuning her life over to God she has become a mentor to kids in distress, youth organization and has even become foster parent to three troubled teen boys who society has turned their back on. Through her actions her service within the community has benefit society, not only on a physically level, but psychologically, and philosophically as well. Skills that she possess is her able to help others without bias, link individuals to the appropriate resource to receive help, her ability to motivate others to live a healthy life, and her ability to communicate effectively.
