Introduction

The United States has been called the world peacekeepers. However, many historians dispute this claim through the actions that they have taken between the periods of 1914 and 1945. The reason why historians put so much emphasis on this period of time was because it was the most chaotic time that mankind had to face. It could easily be said that World War I and World War II is the most important war that took place in the history of mankind. While the United States did participate in the wars, they were not fully committed until their own interests were at risk. Another important part of history that will be looked at is also the League of Nations which was proposed by President Woodrow Wilson, a former president of United States. Although it was an American President who proposed the idea, America never joined the League of Nations.

World War I

The World War I (July 28th, 1914 ~ November 11th 1918) is the first global war in human history. All major powers from all continents were in some way involved in this war. The United States was not actively involved in World War I from the beginning. Previous to summer of 1918, United States was called an “associated power” which refers to countries that did not send troops but sold supplies.

World War I began with an assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. The person who assassinated Franz Ferdinand was a Serbian activist. This resulted in Austria-Hungary declaring war on Serbia. This resulted in many associated powers declaring war against each other. In the end, the war was divided into two powers. The first set of countries was called the Allied Powers which included the British Empire, France, Russia, Italy, United States, Japan and many more. The second set of countries was called the Central Powers. The Central Powers included the German Empire, Austria-Hungary Empire, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria.
