Australia Awards P rogram Background

The Australia Awards Program is a significant element of the Australian Government’s

development assistance to Afghanistan and is administered by the Australian Agency for

International Development (AusAID).

The program aims to contribute to the long term development of Afghanistan by offering a

range of scholarships opportunities to eligible Afghan citizens.

The Australian Government is offering up to 15 under-graduate Australian Development

Scholarships for studies at four Australian universities in Malaysia, for studies commencing in

2013. The universities are:

• Monash University

• Curtin University

• Swinburne University

E ligibility Criteria

To be awarded ADS undergraduate (open) award you must:

Be an Afghan citizen and be living in Afghanistan

Have completed 12 years of secondary education: having completed one year or more than

one year of university study will be an advantage

Provide secondary school certificate and transcript issued by Ministry of Education and

attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Commit to return to Afghanistan for at least two years after completing the scholarship and

be willing to sign a contract confirming this

Be between 18 and 40 years of age at the time of application

Meet the IELTS requirements of overall 5.0 with no band less than 4.5

Women and provincial candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Note: Single female candidates applying for these scholarships are able to apply for a family

member to accompany them to Malaysia if the family member meets the Government of

Malaysia visa requirements. However all travel and living costs in Malaysia of the family

members are the responsibility of the awardee. The Australia Government will only pay a stipend

for the awardee.
