Question One

Carefully review the assignment scenario/case study. From the limited information in the scenario/case study, along with your answers to the unit three written assignment, identify at least three direct and specific long-term and three direct and specific short term operations changes that Albatross Anchor must make to gain a clear and sustainable competitive advantage (provide detailed information to validate and support each recommended change)

Long-Term Operational Changes

(01) The first long term change that Albatross Anchor must make to gain a clear sustainable competitive advantage is to locate a new space for the entire operation. The current space is not adequate for the company’s two product lines. The space is does not allow for quick change over processes. It also limits both the storage of raw materials and finished goods.

There are other issues with the space as well. The layout makes it difficult for proper workflow and there’s much wasted motion. This can lead to poor productivity and increase injury rates. The workforce in current state is not optimized and at times are hindered by the physical environment.

(02) Secondly, long term Albatross Anchor must decide where they want to be positioned in the market. If the company desires to be the industry leader and wants to compete with other anchor manufactures capitol investments will need to be made in equipment, technology and marketing.

Gaining new customers will require many process changes and efforts. With margins dramatically smaller than their competition due to varied cost and limited space an accurate return on investment analysis should be conducted.
