What are UPS “Smart Labels?” What role do they play in UPS operations?

UPS smart labels are The UPS Smart Label is a computer-generated shipping label that you can create using your personal computer.

The information contained in the barcode can provide the customers with an increased reliability, since the barcode contains data imported directly from the customer system.

At every station the package is scanned updating the main database providing the customer with up to date tracking information about the package and also enabling the end part of the delivery to schedule the best route for ensure on time delivery of the package.

2. Write out the steps a package takes from pick-up by a UPS driver to delivery including the role of DIAD, the UPS Data Center, and the UPS Package Center.

First,the processing start with customer inputing order,the package will sent to warehouse, andUPS data center will receive tracking information which customer can attach their package.Secondly before shipping out package,it will be scanned by DIAD,the information sent up to the main data center.Thirdly shipping out,when the package was delivered,customer need sign name and the whole information will sent to data center through DIAD.

3.What role does wireless communication play in the UPS systems?

Each DIAD IV features a built-in GPRS and CDMA radio, that allows the system to update is routing thru cell phone signal, an acoustical modem to facilitate dial-up access if necessary, and 802.11 wireless LAN connectivity to enable transmission in a UPS center. It also features a Bluetooth wireless personal area network and an infrared (IrDA) port to communicate with peripheral devices and customer PC’s/Printers.
