SWOT Analysis

Strengths

The major strength within the World Vision (WVI) organization is bestowed in the devotion and dedication to the care of indigent families and more importantly with children who are in need and suffering through global networking. This strength is defined in their mission and core values: prevention, care and advocacy. WVI has done an excellent job in promoting preventative care and awareness for the risk of HIV/AIDS infections. The education and awareness has served many vulnerable families and their adolescent children to stop spreading the disease. In addition, they have provided care and support to orphans and vulnerable children who are affected by providing them protection via education, living supplies and by building schools and refugees. Furthermore, advocacy has played an important role for WVI global expansion. It has mainly been through working with the U.S. Government and legislation to provide support through sponsorships and donations (Barlett, Ghoshal, & Beamish, 2008).

Another area where WVS excels in is through their ability to fundraise. Globally they have marketed and positioned themselves as a worthy cause that has lead them to receive donations totaling 732 million dollars in cash along with 300 million in commodities. Majority of the funding has been raised from private sectors, government and multilateral agencies across the globe (2008). As stated in the case study: “By 1969, World Vision managed 5.1 million dollars in funding of which 80% was delivered to 32600 children in 388 projects. The remaining 20% supported fund raising and administrative costs (p.369, 2008).” The benefit for the organization has been and continues to be the ability to apply the funding directly to where it is needed, orphans. The ability to be able to collect funds from across the world from so many different sectors has also been in due cause to the renown reputation the organization has established through the years.
