Administration and Stakeholders Factor Paper
The Department of Veterans Administration has grown tremendously since the Vietnam era of 1961-1975 considering the mishandling of veterans upon their return from a war that left all involved perplexed as well as disenchanted. I believe former President Nixon said it best:
No event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now. Rarely have so many people been so wrong about so much. Never have the consequences of their misunderstanding been so tragic. Nixon
The need for the myriad of veterans returning from war became a focal point for veteran reform. The Veterans Administration continually sought avenues that would best support those returning Vietnam vets to a country that was already affected by returning during an economic recession. The Veterans Readjustment Benefits Act (Vietnam GI Bill) was enacted to restore veterans educational benefits as well as the adaptation of Veterans assistance centers. Other programs that were created was the Service Group Life Insurance eligibility and special services for those exposed to Agent Orange. The Department of Veterans Affairs (2010).
Due to the continual need to adjust services according to the ever changing needs of the
veterans, The Department of Veterans Affairs have evolved into an organization that takes the
full scope of veterans needs into consideration; not only in the healthcare and educational needs
but in the overall care of the veterans mental, physical and social needs, In supplying the needs
of the veteran, there becomes a need to have leadership that best accommodates the strategic
planning and implementation that is flexible and oriented to appropriately transform the VA into
one of the highest healthcare arenas. According to Pielstick (1996) in his doctoral dissertation
titled: The Design for a Leadership Academy for Community College Professionals...
