Input Controls

The objective of input design is to ensure the quality, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of input data during its conversion from its original source into computer data, or entry into a computer application. Data entered into a computer application from either manual online input or by scheduled automated processing: batch input. Input controls will ensure that data is accurately processing through the application and that no data is added, lost, or altered during processing (Shu, unk). No matter how data is entering into an information system, the quality of the output is only as good as the quality of the input. There are several key input controls for an input design such as, data processing control, source document controls, validation controls, and user interface. Input control includes the necessary measures to ensure that input data is correct, complete, and secure (Harry J. Rosenblatt, 2012).

Data processing control

Data processing control is controlling the data entering and leaving a system. In the 1960s, this was easier to monitor due to the use of only one design, mainframe architecture. Mainframe architecture often referred to as data processing center, centralized data into one system by an IT department. Today Servers are used, the definition of server is a computer that supplies data processing services or support to one or more computers also called clients. One advantage of server based processing is that various types of terminals can communicate with the mainframe and the design is not tied to a specific hardware platform. On the other note, the disadvantage is that clients or desktops provide limited interface for its users. In a server-based system, all of the data storage, access and application programs are located on the mainframe. The following is to ensure Data processing control:
