Introduction
Facebook and Twitter are currently the most popular social networks that people use every day around the world. They are both networking site, however, they are much different from one another. Twitter is for users who want to write short messages to and from the people they are following. They can select exactly what and from whom they want to hear. Groups of users on Twitter consists mostly from professionals which are promoting business. With Twitter, you can follow close friends and even celebrities. However, Facebook is different from Twitter because there are much more options that can be used. Facebook is more suitable for personal social networks. For someone to be friends with another person on Facebook, they must accept a friend request, whereas, on Twitter you are able to follow people more easily. Therefore, in this case study I will compare the differences between Twitter and Facebook’s mission statements and evaluate both sites to form a SWOT analysis.
Synopsis of the Situation
Facebook’s mission is “to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected (http://drdianehamilton.wordpress.com/2011/01/13/top-10-company-mission-statements-in-2011, 2012). Twitters mission statement, however, is “To instantly connect people everywhere to what’s most important to them.” This is not Twitter’s original mission statement but they had re-created it last year.
