The South African National AIDS Council (SANAC)

SANAC is a national body created by Cabinet to advise government on the development and implementation of the National Strategic Plan (NSP), and the development and implementation of appropriate HIV/AIDS and TB policies and programs. It is composed of representatives drawn from various sectors, including government departments and civil society. SANAC is chaired by the Deputy President of the Country who is supported by a deputy chairperson from civil society.

The South African National AIDS Trust (SANAT)

SANAT was established to facilitate the

implementation of SANAC’s objectives. The role of SANAT is to: -

Provide support to SANAC objectives and ensure the implementation of its decisions at all levels;

Mobilize resources for the implementation of the HIV and AIDs and TB NSP;

Coordinate

Donor

and

Development

Partners involvement in the HIV/AIDS and TB response;

The specific objectives of SANAC are to: -

Determine the priority programs in line with NSP; and

Advise the government on HIV, AIDS, STI and tuberculosis policies, strategies and related matters;

Monitor, evaluate and report on the deployment of resources for the

implementation of the NSP. to national

Create and strengthen partnerships for strategic collaboration

response to HIV/AIDS programmes; and • Receive and disseminate all sectorial intervention and consider challenges; • Oversee continual monitoring and

evaluation of all aspects of the NSP.
