Chapter 7 discuss the major issues of environment problems and its solutions from ethics. With the advancement in the field of science and technology, environmental problems are growing faster and faster. Due to human activities, all the he natural resources like air, water and land is suffering badly. Hundreds of species are becoming extinct everyday. The smoke emitted in the air by the industry increase the level of thus effecting the ozone layer every minute. This situation raises questions about the social and environmental responsibility of business and the engineer.

BUSINESS AND ECOLOGY:

Industries damage the ecosystem when they use natural resources for their own purpose and in return they dispose waste materials. Today almost every company dispose a large amount of waste product in water thus affect the ponds, lakes and rivers. The waste products contaminate the water to an extent that it become toxic for the living organisms and the whole ecosystem. Human being is continuously looking for a new way to make money by ignoring the impact of his business on environment. Toxic chemicals in water harm the aqua life which in return effect the fisher man business. Business transactions are not only between two parties. Its like a chain reaction that a profit of one become the loss of other. Industries make “profit” by manufacturing products and emit chemicals in water but it become a loss for the fisher man. His primary source of income is effected. All of the damage done to the pond, fish, and fishermen are “externalities” or “spillover”. It is unethical that in-order to save money we let the other people suffer.

Disturbance of ecosystem not only harm the financial side but it also have impacts on the natural habitat of other animals by dumping chemicals in water or in land.
