I would like to work at a local social service organization that deals with children who are neglected, abused and in drug families. There are a lot of people who are dealing with these problems right now. Drug abuse and child abuse are growing concerns in our nation today. People are dependent on drugs and start neglecting their children, losing interest in everything except where and how they are going to get their next high. In this field it is important for the social worker to have patience, loyalty and compassion for the children because of what they have been through. The children need to know that they can trust you so they can share with you to what happened to them. As a human services worker ethics is important because you are working around children but also with the people that are being accused. There are going to be times when a worker needs to remember remain professional. The worker will need to be able to work with the people and remain calm. There are a lot of people that would like to hurt people in this kind of situation. It takes a strong willed person to be able to work in this field.

Ethics and ethical leadership is very important when working in the social service field, especially where children are concerned. I know that my feelings and morals tend to try to get involved and it is hard to keep our morals separated from our job. We need to have a positive attitude and know that we can only do so much to help those who need it, and we cannot help everyone. When dealing with certain cases there is nothing we can do until we get the okay from our superiors. When working in substance abuse areas the unethical misconduct happens more mainly due to our feelings as social workers interfering with the cases.
