In developing the project for your customer, one of your project team members realizes that the project could be improved by adding features that would make it easier to use and provide better options for future growth without going over the original project budget. He comes to you and tells you of his intentions. As a project manager, how should you respond?

A project manager should always be sure that they are motivating their team. In addition, to making their team feel comfortable sharing whatever ideas they may have. When members of any team feel their thoughts are ideas are welcomed by the project manager, then tend to do a better job overall. This also includes acknowledging them for a performance well done. Next, lets take a go over the pros and cons of a project. would also try and discuss that this can have an impact on project deadlines, if the project would be extended beyond its planned deadline. I will promise the team member that I would then take this very good idea to the customer and project sponsor and see if it can be included and update the team member. Post this I would do a detailed analysis of the new idea in terms of cost benefit analysis, and also an impact analysis on project deadline, and then submit this analysis and my recommendation to the client and project sponsor if the idea can be included and if they are fine with extending the deadline.

In case there is no impact on the deadline as well, then I will get the idea included and communicate to the team and project sponsor of the team member who has come up and how this idea has benefitted the entire project, to ensure effective team motivation and encourage creativity.
