1. What are the ethical and legal issues?

I think that there is an issue to be socially responsible to society. Sure to most people a game are just game. If children are raised right they will not be influenced by them. However, for a corporation to develop a game that encourages gambling, sex, and violence could be dangerous. Video games are addictive anyway, but when you add in gambling , violence and sex, for some it doesn’t take long before they are completely consumed and the line between virtual and reality gets blurred.

2. What are Kent’s options?

Video games are overwhelming marketed to males, and in some games such as “Lucky”, the only female character is a prostitute or stripper. Kent’s best option is to be aware of his market and eliminate the idea of full nudity from the game. In the end it will make the corporation more money, by not offending the potential female purchasers who shop for their male children.

3. Discuss the acceptability and commercial use of sex, violence, and gambling in the United States?

Sex, violence and gambling are on television and in movies all the time. Unlike other country’s around the world, the United States has not found it as desirable to the general public, especially full nudity. Violence is a part of life, but in the U.S. it has a negative effect on peoples life, therefore it should not be used in the marketing of a product if a corporation wants to maximize their profits. Gambling is addictive. We always hear about the multimillion dollar lottery winners, but never about the people that spent their life savings to take a chance at it. Business in itself is a gamble. Some win and are successful other lose and have to close shop. In the end all of it is legal. If used within the laws and regulations is acceptable.

4. Are marketing sex, violence, and gambling acceptable in other countries if they fit their culture?
