Opiates are highly addictive drugs and can cause major life changes that can go as far as death. Morphine is a form of opiate and in most cases is used to treat moderate to severe pain in medical patients. Morphine is not for treating pain after surgery unless you were already taking it before the surgery. Morphine may be habit forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed to. Drinking alcohol while on this drug may result in the person using it to feel the side effects caused by it more strongly. If the person abusing the drug has any medical problems such as, asthma, low blood pressure, or liver disease are putting their lives at major risk. I have witnessed firsthand someone abusing this drug and they did it by using the morphine patches that doctors give out to their patients. They bought it off the streets and the patch was so strong that they would have to cut it in small pieces before sticking it to their bodies. Codeine is also habit forming and should only be used to the persons allowed by their doctor. Codeine has the history of impairing someone’s thinking and reactions. If used incorrectly, taking the chance of getting behind the wheel of a vehicle may result in an accident. Overdosing on codeine will have you feeling symptoms of drowsiness, confusion, a weak pulse, and have you with pinpoint pupils. Taking way too much of this drug will stop your breathing causing death. Heroin comes from what is called, morphine alkaloid. This is found in opium and is one of the strongest opiates out there today. Opium is a very strong drug taken from the dried latex form from the opium poppy seed pod. Under the Controlled Substance Act of 1970, heroin is classified as a Schedule I drug, and is not used for any medical reasons in the United States today.
