Gnosticism and the struggle for the World’s Soul

In this article the author basically talks about Gnosticism. He tells us what it is.

He talks about the differences between Gnosticism and Christianity and how we can actually differ if something is Gnostic based or Christianity.

Lastly, he touches upon how Gnosticism is taking over the world as it can be seen everywhere in current society through movies and books.

To start off, before I get into the details of the article, I want you guys to know what Gnosticism is.

Q. With a raise of hands, how many have you heard the word Gnosticism? What are some thoughts that come to your head when I say the word gnosis or Gnosticism?

* It’s basically a religious movement of the first centuries A.D and it has always rivalled Christianity.

* In Greek word “gnosis” meaning "knowledge“. This is not the normal education knowledge but Gnosis refers to a much specialised form of knowledge.

* So, a Gnostic is one who has secret Knowledge: This secret knowledge is what makes a person capable of joining the human being to the divine mystery. It’s the experience of direct participation with the divine.

So, to actually understand this religion we have to know the basic beliefs of Gnostics are.

* Evil God (demiurge) created the universe from foul matters and possesses it with his evil demons.

* Man’s spirit is thrown into a dark world and imprisoned in each individuals body and soul

* Demons keep man slave of the material world and ignorant of the “DIVINE” condition.

* So, a messiah and “Christ” comes to redeem gnosis

* He teaches them about their true spirits and helps them find the “divine spark” within themselves. So it is basically a process of self-exploration.

* Gnosticism taught that salvation is achieved through special knowledge (gnosis).

* Self-centred monologue in which man divinizes himself.”

Obviously since we are in a catholic school, we should know our beliefs so...
