A. The CEO Martin wants to use empowerment style to manage the company.

B. A self-managed team was built.

1. This team can structure itself any way it wants.

2. This team can use whatever information it needs.

3. This team can draw on any company resources.

C. The team thought some new ideas, but hardly to achieve.

II. Sources of the problems in the case

A. The SportsGear Company has long history, however now the company had a host of problems.

B. The CEO wants to use a new manager strategy to revive the SportsGear Company.

C. The employees cannot adapt the new style of working, some ideas not working at all.

III. How to solve the problems

A. Talk with the CEO; tell him this empowerment way still need to improve.

B. Try to use this empowerment style in another way, try to make it useful.

C. Coordinate the relationship with the both sides.

IV. Specific plan and potential problems

A. Specific plan

1. Build a specific management plan

2. Improve the empowerment style to a useful and more efficient style.

3. Talk with the CEO, try to tell him this is not that useful and try to find another plan to solve the problems.

4. If some policies or strategies not working, correct it rapidly, this will be the advantage of empowerment.

B. Potential problems.

1. The CEO maybe angry and feel not be respected.

2. The employees maybe resistance as well.

3. The whole plan maybe never success, because it never has been archived.

V. Moral or ethical problems

A. Give the employees too much freedom may cause some unspoken rules.

B. Show respects for the CEO, but at the same time the employees may thought you are not on their side, or reverse.
