For this essay we will be assessing the effects for each stakeholder involved in the case for producing toys; that being, the manager, the Thai manufacturer and the family involved. We consider that the manager should not make this deal. The deal supports child labour which is immoral as it deprives the children of education and play time even though the manager can receive a bonus himself through increased profits. 

The Thai manager insists that child labour and families’ working together is the ‘norm’ in Thailand. When considering the theory of ethical relationism it could be argued the deal is morally correct due to different cultures and their ideals of right and wrong. This does not give the manager an excuse to take advantage of a less sophisticated business workplace. There is no measurement to analyse how the men / fathers of the Thai family spend the money for the communal family effort. The pay could be supporting a drinking habit. 

According to Egoism which is a consequentialist theory focusing on individual desires the manager should take the deal. Egoism assists in the manager’s short term goals, that being to reduce costs for the company, therefore receiving a bonus. The theory also takes into account that the Thai family would have a stable income and the kids are having fun. If considering our initial point of not making the deal, in a short term perspective we would be taking away the family income. Therefore, in this scenario using egoism theory would be a good thing.

However we consider this theory to have a different approach to ours, we chose to consider the long term happiness of the children. These kids may enjoy this job some days but over time will want to have schooling and social lives. The manager by not taking this contract he could help the country becoming a step closer towards not having child labour.
