Purposed New Subnet Mask

In order to add new nodes to the network segments, the subnet mask would have to be changed. The following network mask will be used to accomplish this.

A | 255.255.255.128 | 128 |

B | 255.255.255.192 | 64 |

C | 255.255.255.224 | 32 |

D | 255.255.255.240 | 16 |

Two address need to be reserved for the broadcast and default gateway. The best time to start this project is over the weekend, when usage is at a minimum. User remotely connect during the weekend will be unable to connect while this project is completed. But I believe if we start on a Friday evening, the system will be ready early Saturday morning, if we start on Saturday morning, we could be finished Saturday evening.

A email will be sent to all users announcing the outage while changes are done. Stating “on July 11 from 7:00 am until approximately 1: pm, the network will down for upgrades and changes. “

The new configuration can be tested by ping all routers from all segments. We will also run a traceroute from all segments to make sure the computers can connect to outside resources. The router configuration can be shown by using the “show running-config” command after the configuration of the router is finished. The configuration is done by “int” command such as “int Ethernet” or “ int serial”
