Medicare-

Medicare is a form of health insurance for people over the age of 65 or people who are disabled, and who qualify for this government funded program. There are two parts of Medicare, part A and part B. Part A is helps pay the bill for any hospital visits, as well as any at home care that is needed. This includes services like occupational therapy and physical therapy within the home. Part B helps to pay for and cover almost any other form of medical care that is needed. This includes doctor visits as well as prescriptions, wheelchairs, blood transfusions, and even dialysis. Part B is not free or given like part A is. There is a monthly premium and a annual deductible required in order to receive part B Medicare.

Medicaid-

Medicaid is health insurance or health services that are provided to families with low income or who are in need of healthcare. It is a federally funded program, however each state determines who qualifies for Medicaid, sets up the type, amount, and duration of services for each individual and controls its own Medicaid program. While it’s up to each state to decide what services Medicaid will provide, it’s required that they all provide hospital care, prenatal care, vaccinations, and family planning care among many as well as many other services. Some Medicaid programs provide prescription coverage, optometry coverage, and even rehabilitation services, however it is not required. The guidelines in order to receive Medicaid vary, but in general it’s for any children or pregnant women whose income is at or below 133% of federal poverty level. it is also used for people who are disabled as well as individuals who “medically needy.”
