I feel personal development must be in a continual process of development,

growth and improvement, Through this I can pick up additional understanding and

knowledge which in effect I can use to support the client during the helping process, such as

self awareness, improves self knowledge and helps on building and renewing my identity.

Gaining knowledge in self awareness also helps me be in control of my feelings, thoughts and

emotions whilst working as a helper, continued development in interpersonal skills, sufficient

knowledge about issues involved, and personal attributes, gives me confidence in my abilities

and genuine interest in providing support. Helping me exploit my strengths and cope with

my weaknesses. Strengthening my emotions, my values, my needs and self –motivation

helping me with my intuitive decision making, helps me to motivate others more effectively.

I think using my own values, beliefs using my own personal qualities such as understanding

of the helping process. Knowing my own strengths and weaknesses is important to me,

especially when helping others. I feel my strengths are sincerity, integrity, resilience, respect,

humility, fairness, and courage, along with my motivation for helping others, I have capacity

to feel, I can look at my own sense of worth, address my own fears, I am very comfortable

with my own sexuality, values, ethics, culture, and my awareness of other cultures , race

and my attitude to race and to social class. Also not forgetting my empathic approach,

competence and wisdom.

Feedback is an essential component of self development because what is fed back consists of

observations made by the observers, and something of their understanding of what they

observed, and maybe some suggestions for how things might have been handled differently,

and maybe for some thoughts about what was missing, and of observations made by the helpee...
