Globalization in Web Design

Globalization for a website can be very important, depending on what the website is for, of course, and also, who the intended audience is. A good way to globalize a website whose targeted audiences are in different countries and make it available for those audiences would be to have the same site with the same information in different languages. Not everyone speaks the same language, even if you live in the same country; there are people everywhere that speak a different language than you. When you are creating a website for a company or businesses that have targeted audiences are in different countries, it is important to have the website translated in different languages so that the users will be able to use the website to its full potential.

Translating a website can be done in different ways. One way would be to add a tool by “Google” onto your website called the Google Translator Widget (Sajib, 2009), or to use Google Translate or another translation service, such as Babel Fish or Bing Translator. Another way would be to seek out the services of a professional translator, but if you are not able to do that then you could get translation software (Campbell, 1010).

I have used Google Translate in the past and have tried out Babel Fish and Bing Translator, just for fun, and like everything else; they have their pros and their cons. Two pros that all three share are that they are very simple to use and you can translate an entire web page by simply putting in the URL and selecting the language that you want the page to be translated into. A con that they all share is that sometimes they do not always seem to be very accurate with their translations (Campbell, 1010), and that would not be something that you would want for a professional website.
