Gene One Change Strategy Gene One’s groundbreaking gene technology that eradicated disease in tomatoes and potatoes has helped the company grow from a $2 million start-up investment to a $400 million company in eight short years. The timing of Gene One’s successes, in addition to sharply rising stock indices on Wall Street that indicate a growing interest in biotechnology as well as Food and Drug Administration (FDA) leadership changes that enhance investor confidence in the industry, have positioned the company to capitalize on industry developments. Don Ruiz, Gene One’s Chief Executive Officer, with the advisement of the company’s executive board, have devised a clear strategy with the help of key members in the investment community to go public with an initial public offering (IPO) within a 36-month period (University of Phoenix, 2005). My learning team members and I have been entrusted to write a change strategy that effectively pairs the leadership structure and styles with the learning team’s end vision for Gene One. A change strategy that effectively addresses communication, structural, and personnel issues is best suited to move Gene One into the IPO future. Communication Issues Communicating a clear vision regarding Gene One’s decision to go public with an IPO and how it affects each division as well as each employee of the company is paramount to realizing the change strategy. My learning team noticed the company going through two internal company battles in the Gene One Scenario: structural (research focus vs. Wall Street focus) and personnel (business relationships vs. personal relationships).
