Understanding Technical Writing
People use Technical Writing and Exposed Writing in many ways throughout their careers everyday. “Technical writing is a professional way of communicating either written or oral for a business or industry. Technical Writing is very important in a corporate environment, because, not only does it reflect an image of the writer but it also saves time and helps the reader to understand the point in a professional manner.
Technical writing is an internal form of communication that is used to speak to a board of directors or a corporate style meeting. Technical writing purpose can be to train or even to brief associates on important issues that may arise within their work environment” Gerson ,S and Gerson ,S (2008).
Exposed writing compared to technical writing is external and not as formal as technical communication. Writers are starting to use this method more to reach out to their audience in the corporate industry. “Exposed writing focuses more on expressing yourself formal but in a relaxed way. This method of writing is like talking to your friends but communicating in a professional manner. Examples of Exposed communication would be used more if the writer or speaker is communicating with vendors, customers, or marketing personnel. Exposed writing purposes has a broad meaning and sometimes can be used to promote, request information or make a complaint, or even inform their audience” Gerson ,S and Gerson ,S (2008)..
Technical writing and exposed writing would not have to same tone or formatting. Technical communication tone should be spoke clear, precise, and with confidence. The formatting should reflect a well organized and mistake free document or lecture. Exposed communication tone should be exactly like the technical form, but more relaxed.
