Race and Your Community Your Name Axia College University of Phoenix ETH125 February 15, 2009 I live in a small town named Clanton Alabama. Clanton is located approximately halfway between Birmingham, Alabama and Montgomery, Alabama off of interstate 65. Population in July 2007 was 8,742 people: White 76.3%, Blacks 20.0%, Hispanics 2.6%, Other Race 1.3%, American Indian 0.8% and two or more races 0.7%. Do members of your community look like you? In what ways do they look the same or different? In the community that I live in there is about 50% white and 50% black. The ones in the community that look like me are the white ones. The one that do not look like me are the black ones. No one in our community is raciest we all treat each other the same we look at each other as the same no matter what ones skin color is. If one neighbor is working on something outside then others will offer their help. Every one in the community talks to each other and visits each other black or white. We have quite a few elderly people in our community and each of us checks on them daily to make sure they are okay. If one of us gets sick in the community then every one pitches in and helps them out. Our community pulls together and helps each other. How do leaders within your community treat people who are like you? How do they treat people who are different? The leaders of our community do not treat any one different either, unless there has been a crime committed. That is the only way any body ever gets treated differently. The crime rate in Clanton is very low the table below shows the crime rate in our little town from 2001-2006. As the crime table shows we have very little crime in this little town, although it has risen since 2001 it is still low. We are the kind of town that can leave our doors unlocked and not have to worry about some one breaking in on you. How do other members of you community treat people who are like you? How do they treat people who are different?...
