The purpose of this memo is to explain about randomly drug test in the workplace and my recommendation. I believe that this memo will help you to make decision.

Summary

The modern society has been keep changing right now so we should strive to keep pace with the rapid changes in the market. You have considered that the drug testing policy is one of the ways to improve the condition of employee environment. Thus, I researched what the best way is and how to fit the policy to the company.

Discussion

The company, Medequip, Inc. does not have any drug testing policy. However, there have been no problems at the factory concerning failed equipment or accidents due to drug abuse, nobody cannot predict about future situation. Most important thing we have to consider is safety. I expect that if the policy set up, it will lead the work place safety. Testing in the workplace can make the working environment safer place than past (Tytler 2009). In addition, the policy will reduce accidents. According to the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration, “Of the 17.2 million illicit drug users aged 18 or older in 2005, 12.9 million (74.8 percent) were employed either full or part time.” They further assert that 10-20 percent of work related fatalities test positive for drugs or alcohol. Those under the influence of illicit substances are more likely to cause or be part of accidents in the workplace. On the other hand, some people insist that there will be invasion of privacy. They are saying that Analysis of a person’s urine can disclose many details about that person’s private life other than drug use, including personal medical information.
