1. What are the different forms of social media that exist today? Provide examples of different social media and their primary purposes.

There are many forms of social media. Some examples are Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Flicker, and YouTube. The primary purpose of Facebook is a social networking site for people to become friends and see what each other write about one another. Twitter is massive blogging website for people to publicly socialize about current events. Blogger is another site that has the same effects as twitter. Flicker is a photo sharing social media site. And my favorite YouTube is the biggest video sharing website that is great for seeing short clips of almost anything you can think of and also lots of great tutorial videos for learning things.

2. What are the greatest benefits of social media for individuals and society?

I feel the greatest benefits of social media is that its ability to get in touch with people in a way that was impossible two decades ago. Social media has honestly created a world forum in which you can now communicate with people all around the world. Blogging sites have allowed Internet audiences to voice their opinions on everything from celebrity highlights to presidential rallies. Social media has even played a huge role in political protest such as what we witnessed recently in Iraq. Because of social media the world has now become a global village for many good reasons.

3. What are the greatest problems of social media for individuals and society?

I feel some of the greatest problems that I have seen with social media for individuals and society are government surveillance; unethical data gathering methods have become everyday issues and online fraud.
