Response to Ben Stein’s Commentary

Ben Stein shared a few confessions for a purpose. He wanted us to realize the reality of life in modern society. He wanted us to realize how ignorant we are, especially when it comes to our faith in God.

In his first confession, he says that he has no clue who Nick and Jessica are, yet they are all over the covers of magazines. He has no interest in the lives of celebrities and says, “If this is what it means to be no longer young, it’s not so bad.” Through this confession, he wants to prove how publicized celebrities’ lives are and it influences and intrigues young people today. He says it with a tone of annoyance by saying, “I have no freaking clue who Nick and Jessica are.”

He then confesses that although he is Jewish, he likes when people greet him merry Christmas because it gives him a feeling of brotherhood and unity. He respects everyone no matter what their religion may be because he appreciates unity and equality.

Most importantly, he points out the fact that everyone is telling God to get out of their lives yet when something like hurricane Katrina happens, they wonder why God lets it happen. He stated, “I think it has a great deal to do with WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.” What he means is that we get what we deserve. He also says, “Madeleine O’Hare complained she didn’t want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.” He thinks terrorist attacks, school shootings, etc. began once she said that.

The tones of his commentary are almost angry and serious. The message he delivers really does get you thinking about the people of today’s society. I agree with his beliefs and how it certainly is not funny, it is a serious matter we should recognize.

I’ve been noticing the world is gradually changing; global warming, tsunamis, war, earthquakes in unusual places, bad economy, religious controversies, and much more. There are so many crazy stories...
