Celeste Winters

I have this passion that makes my legs shake. I imagine freewill over the open plains as I sit in my car. My stomach twists and churns as I realize where my thoughts are taking me. My palms get warm and tingly then slowly begin to sweat. Of course, it is not really just the passion of being in a speeding car. Rather, it is the yearning to drive and feel the ground rumbling beneath me. I rely only on my own gut instinct.

I am in love with this adrenaline rush.

Despite the urge to speed, four summers ago I decided to go four wheeling in my Toyota Celica. I quaked inside from the excitement as we flew down Interstate 87. The music was blaring and the warm summer air brushed through our hair as we finally came up to a dirt road. With no one in sight, my little sister Alisha and my friend Anthony raced down the road. At the end was a star lit construction zone. This was a perfect area for trouble.

I flung my Celica around the stop sign at a high rate of speed, around and around we went. I lost control for a moment and almost slammed into the bolder. Slowly, I backed up and once more flung my car around the stop sign except this time I did it backwards without holding the steering wheel. I grabbed my seat belt as Anthony told Alisha to put her seat belt on. My tense thoughts were interrupted by a loud shot as my car jolted to the left. I grabbed the steering wheel with all my strength trying not to lose control as we were unexpectedly propelled into the air. We slammed into a tree, a rock, and rolled over a barb wire fence. The car stopped on its side after rolling three times. I called for Alisha and Anthony but dirt filled the air making visibility impossible. All I could think about was getting out as I heard dripping coming from the car. Reality set in, as I realized how much trouble we were in.
