A.Statement of the Problem

a. General Problem

Is it safe to use Ipil-ipil branch ashes in substituting Pencil Lead?

b. Sub-problem

1. What content of the Ipil-ipil branch can make the streak easy to erase?

2. What content of Ipil-ipil can make the pencil lead unbreakable?

3. How can the Chemical composition of an Ipil-ipil branch help in producing Pencil Lead?

B. Hypothesis

Leucaena Leucocephala (Ipil-ipil) branch cannot be a substitute for Pencil Lead.

C. Significance of the study

As stated in the Background of the study, Graphite, the main content of Pencil Lead, can be harmful to the environment due to its mining. The researcher would like to substitute pencil lead with a more natural substance that can be less harmful to human life.

D. Scope and Limitations

The scope of this study focuses on how Ipil-ipil branch can be used as Pencil Lead. The researcher will use only Ipil-ipil branches to produce the pencil leads. The researcher would like to see the feasibility in using the branches of Ipil-ipil as pencil lead.

This study will not cover how the finished product will look like. The researcher will not bear upon on how it smells or its size. The product can only be used on Drawing paper, bond paper and etc.

E. Definition of Terms

Lead- (not be mistaken by the element Lead) a pencil in which the writing material is a thin stick of a graphite compound

Graphite- a very common mineral, soft native carbon, occurring in black to dark-

gray foliated masses, with metallic luster and greasy feel: used for pencil leads.

Feasibility- able to be done or put into effect; possible
