Profile of a Small Business

This paper will discuss the profile of an entrepreneur named Luke Livingston, founder, President, and CEO of Baxter Brewing Co., LLC. The paper will include the start-up process, what opportunity was sought or niche filled, what product or service is sold, and what made the business successful, including marketing, location, product, and management. In addition, it will discuss the effects of globalization on the business and what challenges and benefits could globalization pose to the business.

Main Small business Development Centers (2011) says, “The journey began in August 2009, when Luke Livingston walked into Main SBDC’s Auburn office with the dream,” (para. 8). Luke founded Baxter Brewing Company with a good business plan and passion for fine beers. Luke Livingston began with brewing beer in his college dormitory which led to a leading a blog of a successful online beer journal for four years. The company grossed over $1 million, and brewing more than five thousand barrels of beer in the first year. With the accomplishment of the first years performance earned Luke Livingston recognition from Forbes Magazine as one of the “30 Most Influential Entrepreneurs Under 30,” (Forbes, 2012, para. 1) in the Food and Beverage category. What made the business successful was the 27-year-old providing a service with a staff of 10, to distribute an unheard of amount of beer at a phenomenal rate for the first year the company was open.
